Rape in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Having gotten progressively more bored of my music on my IPod, I decided a week ago to start downloading NPR and 60 Minutes Podcasts to listen to as I walk around campus, sit between classes, and work out at the gym. The other day I was listening to the January 13th 60 minutes podcast, and found myself listening to a report from Anderson Cooper on the "war against women." I was extremely disturbed by what I heard, and was also outraged that this atrocity has not been given much attention. I am passing the online report onto you, and encourage you to read it. Awareness and spreading the word is the first step in making a difference, so please, read this article. Something that stood out to me, was that the casualties of this "war," outnumber the amount of those killed by the conflict in Darfur, another awful genocide occurring in Africa. This is not a light matter, and it deserves our attention, so take a moment and read or watch this report, and then please, pass it on to a friend.

I love the blog, it contains some very interesting stories that deserve to be read.

I read an article last year about the problems in the DRC. The raping of innocent women was briefly discussed, but the article was mainly devoted to the lack of resources available to the majority of the country. I feel this article digs deeper into the problems they are having, and really reaches the reader on a personal level. I cannot comprehend how the world can stand by while something as atrocious as this is happening all the time. As I say that, I feel guilty for not doing everything in my power to help these people. I applaud you for posting this article, and encourage you to continue to raise the awareness on issues of such importance.
